This book leaves out many new features in Carrara 5. This is a very thorough job and leaves much to be desired. If you have never used Carrara, you can benefit, however, is much freer of learning resources online.

Perhaps the first time users can be useful, but people upgrading from earlier versions certainly do not. This book is granted for Carrara 5 and I only used with Carrara, 6 and 7, so I do not know what has changed from Carrara 5. However, I know that there is plenty of capacity at Carrara has not been touched in this book. It focuses primarily on modeling and animation. If that's what you want, great. If you expect to learn how to use Carrara, is woefully inadequate. I find it very annoying that they spend 4 chapters discuss in detail the other programs when I can not find even the most rudimentary discussion of control and configuration of the chip, there are only 10 pages on Shaders of basic, advanced Shaders 11-page, 13 pages in lighting buried in the chapter on the transformation and nothing in the outdoor stage in Carrara you can create incredible. Maybe one day when I am ready to learn the techniques of modeling the book would be most useful, but right now, is money lost.
